Allied Health Science (AHS) education programmes prepare bright, young minds in various healthcare-related disciplines other than medical and nursing. AHS professionals provide doctors with a support system for improved diagnosis and treatment. They are an integral part of the healthcare system and apply their scientific knowledge of disease prevention and treatment, health systems management, medical technology and health interventions to help patients make a complete recovery and have an enhanced quality of life.
The Hindu Mission Hospital’s College for Allied Health Sciences was established in pursuance of the goal of providing high quality education in AHS. Affordable and excellent paramedical education, especially in the field of allied health sciences, is still a dream for many youngsters. The college is changing that with its exceptional courses and ensuring that the dream becomes a reality for all the students, who pass through its portals. The Hindu Mission College of Allied Health Sciences came into being in 2017 and is also affiliated to Dr MGR Medical University. The college is an offshoot of the Hindu Mission Hospital and aims to train and create an exceptional workforce of allied health professionals, who become leaders in their respective fields and provide valuable service across the globe.

A Physician Assistant is a health professional, who supports a physician or surgeon in carrying out their duties of caring for their patients. The physician assistant’s work involves examining patients, taking their medical history and checking their vitals, before the doctor does a thorough check up. The assistant may also give preliminary treatment, prescribe medicines or educate patients and their caregivers about taking care of their health. Physician assistants can work in a doctor’s clinic, a primary health centre, hospital or a rural/semi-urban healthcare set up.

Dialysis technology is a vital part of nephrology and involves giving specialised care to patients with kidney problems. Dialysis technologists are skilled in operating medical equipment used for renal replacement therapies (dialysis) to renal failure patients under the supervision of a doctor or nurse.

An Operation Theatre (OT) professional facilitates planned or emergency surgeries, by preparing in advance the equipments that are necessary for any surgical procedures.This is a course designed to provide in-depth knowledge and impart skills for working as an assistant to the consultant anesthesiologist as well as to assist in preparation of operation theatre before and during an elective or emergency surgery. The course is designed to meet the growing demand for experts in the fields of anaesthesia technology and operation theatre management, medical ethics and post-operative care.

Perfusion technologists are an important part of a medical/surgical team. Their role is crucial in procedures involving cardio-thoracic organs (heart and lungs). The cardio-pulmonary perfusion technology courses enable students to learn the workings of the heart and respiratory organs of the human body. The main job of a perfusion technologist entails operating the heart-lung machine and cardio-pulmonary equipment as well as monitoring a patient’s physiological parameters (heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure and oxygen saturation).

This course trains students to become skilled technologists, who assist doctors in cardio-vascular testing and in imaging techniques involving the heart and blood vessels. Their work is significant in testing and diagnosis of various heart-related ailments.They may also assist doctors to perform complex and invasive emergency procedures such as angiography and angioplasty.

In this allied health course, students are trained to use various diagnostic equipments and materials to conduct clinical laboratory tests. Medical laboratory technology involves the examination of body fluids in laboratory setting for the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of different types of diseases.

Radiography is the use of advanced technology and equipment to take images of what is inside the human body. Students of radiography and imaging technology develop their skills for using X-rays, ultrasound, MRI for diagnostic purposes and help the physicians and surgeons make a correct diagnosis of the patient.

This course involves the study of physiology of the eye and use of optical and visual aids to help patients improve their vision. Optometrists are allied health professionals, who diagnose and treat vision-related ailments and help patients with eye disorders improve their eyesight through various aids that enhance their quality of life.
