Atherosclerosis
- This occurs when the smooth flow of blood from the heart to different parts of the body is blocked because of calcium, fat and other substances getting deposited on the walls of the coronary arteries. This substance gets hardened and is called plaque, and may cause coronary artery disease.
Heart Attack
- The heart needs a good supply of oxygenated blood to function at its optimum best. If the regular flow of blood to the heart is affected due to certain blockages or clots in the coronary artery, it can damage the tissues and cause a heart attack. Recognising the signs of an attack and timely intervention by experienced doctors can prevent maximum impairment of the heart.
Arrhythmia
- It is a condition associated with the heart rhythm, wherein the heartbeat may be too fast, too slow or beating in an irregular pattern. This happens when there is a problem with the electrical circuit of the heart.
Mitral Valve Stenosis
- The heart has four valves, which are positioned between the chambers of the heart. One such valve is the mitral valve that connects the left atrium to the left ventricle. Stenosis occurs when the mitral valve becomes blocked and flow of blood is restricted from the left atrium to the left ventricle, causing damage to the tissues.
Peripheral Artery Disease
- When blood vessels other than those connected to the heart and brain become narrow due to fatty deposits, it is called peripheral artery disease. This can affect free flow of blood to the legs, arms and kidneys.
