Dental problems
treated in the Department

This is the most common dental condition often seen in children, but may also be found in adults.

When food that is high in starch and sugars gets deposited on the teeth, bacteria that live in the mouth feed on these materials and damage the outer covering called the enamel.

This causes holes called cavities to form on the teeth.

This is a mild condition that is characterised by swelling and irritation of the gums, mostly caused by plaque build-up and bacteria in and around the teeth and gums.

When oral hygiene is neglected for a long time, gingivitis can progress to a more serious infection and inflammation of the gums and surrounding bones, resulting in bleeding gums and even tooth loss.

Root infection of the teeth occurs when a dental cavity is left untreated for long and bacterial infection reaches the tooth pulp, affecting the blood vessels and nerves.

It is characterised by debilitating pain and pus accumulation.

This is when an individual experiences physical injury to the mouth or dental structure including the teeth, gums, jaw, lip, bones supporting the tooth and gums or the soft tissues inside the mouth. It is usually caused by a fall or accident.

While tooth loss in babies and children is normal as it is a natural process wherein the tooth is replaced by an adult one, in older people, tooth loss can be a sign of infection, trauma or sometimes a lifestyle disorder such as diabetes or blood pressure.
