About Padma Shri Awardee
D K Srinivasan

When D K Srinivasan was struck by the dearth of good healthcare facilities for the poor and needy in and around the city of Chennai, he decided to start a charitable healthcare institution that would pioneer the cause of marginalised people. He founded Hindu Mission Hospital in 1982 with a vision to provide exceptional medical care to the needy  irrespective of caste, creed or religion. His missionary zeal has propelled the hospital to its current state and his vision continues to drive the institution to greater heights. His efforts have alleviated the suffering of countless people over the last 37 years.

D K Srinivasan was conferred the Padmashri award by the Government of India in 2016 for his yeoman service to the underprivileged sections of society. He has been involved in social service for over 40 years after giving up his successful business interests. Always a visionary, he has not only provided healthcare to the poor but facilitated access to education for first generation students. He is involved in many other welfare projects for the community. He continues to lead the hospital in both day-to-day activities and planning projects for the future. He embodies the hospital’s motto Paropakarartham Idham Shareeram’ (This body is to serve others).
